Timbaki Market (Crete) |

The Messara plain around Timbaki is also known for the cultivation of flowers. Furthermore there are clothes on the weekly market of Timbaki. Some of the prices are very reasonable. In addition there is almost everything. Who for example has forgotten a cable for the mobile phone or the computer at home, can find it here. In the past, when we last visited Timbaki about 15 years ago, live animals such as chickens, sheep and even donkeys were sold at the Timbaki market. This does not seem to be the case anymore (beginning of 2017). The fresh food at the end of the market day, after 12 o'clock, is particularly inexpensive. Then, according to the motto "everything must go", one kilo of fruit or vegetables can often be bought for less than one euro. Otherwise Timbaki is not exactly the most beautiful city on Crete. There is always chaotic traffic on the busy thoroughfare. The small town reminds a little of Crete 1-2 decades ago and is one of the least influenced cities of the island of Crete. The city has about 7,000 inhabitants and is also written Tymbaki. It is situated on the road from Heraklion via Mires to Agia Galini.
