Souvlaki, alongside gyros and moussaka, is the most famous
Greek dish in the
world. Translated into English, souvlaki means ‘small stick’. In Greece it is
also a collective term for all meats which has been skewered then roasted over a
grill.
The most common souvlakis available are pork
souvlaki, beef souvlaki, lamb souvlaki and chicken souvlaki. Sometimes you can
even find fish souvlaki.
The souvlakis are usually prepared on a grill and served with fries, some salad
and tzatziki or some yoghurt.
A plate of souvlaki generally
costs between 7and 10 Euro in the year 2025, and is regarded as a main course. As with all meals, some bread is served
alongside.
